JAKARTA - Brentford striker, Ivan Toney, is feeling anxious. His dream of appearing in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is in danger of being shattered.

This relates to the news that Toney is being investigated for betting on football matches.

British newspapers, The Sun and Daily Mail, reported Toney faced accusations of placing bets in the early stages of his career, before becoming the star he is today.

The newspaper said Toney was not involved in any criminal activity or match-fixing. However, the English Football Association (FA) strictly prohibits all players from gambling in football.

The 26-year-old reacted to the reports in the media. He confirmed he was ready to "assist the Football Association with their questions".

He also stressed that he wants to go to Qatar 2022 with England. He hopes to be called up by coach Gareth Southgate.

"I found out a story about me in a national newspaper today," Toney tweeted.

"I have assisted the Football Association with their inquiries and will not be providing any comment until the investigation has reached a decision."

"I am a proud Englishman and it has always been my childhood dream to play for my country in the World Cup finals."

Brentford has also issued a statement regarding the investigation into the player. "We are taking note of the story about Ivan Toney and the FA investigation. The club will not comment."

Toney was called up to the England national team for the first time last September in the Nations League matches against Italy and Germany. However, Southgate has not given him the opportunity to play for the Three Lions.
