JAKARTA — Men's doubles pair Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto advanced to the second round of the Malaysia Masters 2022.

They pocketed their tickets after defeating the vice hosts Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin 21-14 and 22-20 at the Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, on Tuesday, July 5.

This duel is a repeat of last week's Malaysia Open 2022 semifinal. At that time Fajar/Rian also came out victorious in a straight game duel.

This latest victory makes Fajar/Rian now win-lose 7-1 over the Malaysian representative.

In the second round, the fifth-ranked pair will face the winners of the two hosts, Junaidi Arif/Muhammad Haikal against Boon Xin Yuan/Wong Tien Ci.

"Tomorrow there is a day's rest, we will fully recover. Hopefully in the round of 16 we can be better than the current conditions," said Fajar after the match against Goh/Nur.

Previously, tickets for the round of 16 for Indonesia in the BWF Super 500 level tournament had already been obtained in the women's doubles by Febby Valencia Dwijayanti Gani/Ribka Sugiarto.

Meanwhile, several other representatives who fought from the qualifying round, also made it into the main round. Among them are the women's doubles, Febriana Dwi Puji Kusuma/Amalia Cahya Pratiwi and Melani Mamahit/Tryola Nadia.

Then in the women's singles there was Putri Kusuma Wardani and in the mixed doubles there were Zachariah Josiahno Sumanti/Hediana Julimarbela.

The one who had to go home early was Ruselli Hartawan. The 24-year-old was unable to advance to the main draw after losing to Estonian badminton player Kristin Kuuba.

Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri's men's doubles also suffered the same fate. They failed to reach the second round after losing 21-15, 14-21, and 19-21 to Goh V Shem/Low Juan Shen.
