Halo Technology Not Only Saved Zhou Guanyu's Life From Horror Accident In F1 British GP, But Also F2 Driver

JAKARTA - Formula 1 (F1) racer from China, Zhou Guanyu claimed to be very blessed after surviving the terrible accident that occurred at the Silverstone Circuit, England, Sunday, July 3. He also said that the moment of his life and death could not be separated from the Halo protection system that made him safe.

As previously reported, Zhou's Alfa Romeo had a fatal accident shortly after starting. The car overturned and continued to slide towards the gravel at high speed.

Had drifted, the car then fell heavily between the safety wall and the steel fence of the spectator stands at Turn 1 of the Silverstone Circuit. This incident brought the race to a halt.

If you look at the situation at the time of the incident, it seems impossible for Zhou who was trapped in the car to survive. However, Halo's technology helps him to be in a better situation when an incident occurs.

"I'm fine, everything is clear," Zhou said on Twitter after being rushed to a medical center, quoted by The Sun.

“Hello saved me today. Thank you everyone for your kind message,” continued Zhou.

Halo is a protective technology that is deliberately placed around the cockpit of the drivers' cars. The titanium halo was first introduced in Formula 1 in 2018 and initially faced resistance from most of the drivers.

But over time, the Halo system that was implemented proved to be able to save a number of lives in serious incidents, including the incident when the cars of Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) collided at the Italian Grand Prix last season.

In last Sunday's race, Halo was also proven to be able to help save the lives of two drivers from serious accidents. Because on the same day, apart from Zhou, there was also a terrible accident that befell the F2 racer, Roy Nissany.

At that time, Dennis Hauger's car flew and landed on Roy Nissany's helmet. Luckily with the Halo system, he was also safe and avoided serious injury even though the condition of the car was no less terrible.
