JAKARTA - PSSI appreciates the government's support for national football, which has enabled many activities on the gridiron to continue despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The support and attention from Mr. President Joko Widodo through Mr. Menpora Zainudin Amali has been extraordinary to PSSI", said PSSI General Chair Mochamad Iriawan in his remarks at the 2022 Ordinary Congress in Bandung, Monday, quoted by Antara.

According to Iriawan, without the support of the government, it would be difficult for PSSI to set up training camps for the Indonesian national team for both age and senior groups.

The government is seen by PSSI as also supporting the return of Indonesian football passion by assisting in the holding of the 2021 Menpora Cup pre-season tournament.

The Menpora Cup is considered important because it is the first professional football competition during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The tournament was well executed and paved the way for the Indonesian League 1, Liga 2, and League 3 competitions, the EPA League 1, the Soeratin Cup Pertiwi Cup, and beach football.

However, PSSI still hopes that the government will support the 2022 competition, which will be attended by spectators.

"We leave it to the government what percentage of the audience can attend the stadium", said Iriawan.

The 2022 PSSI Ordinary Congress began at 14.00 WIB in Bandung and was opened by Menpora Zainudin Amali and attended by representatives of KONI, KOI, FIFA, AFC, and AFF.

PSSI and 87 voice owners discussed several things such as the previous year's activity and financial reports as well as activity plans and budgets for 2022.
