JAKARTA - Brazilian football legend Pele has been hospitalized again. He continued treatment for his cancer.
According to an AFP report, Pele was admitted to the hospital on Monday, April 19 local time. The information was delivered directly to the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo in their medical records on Tuesday.
The report states that the clinical condition of the person whose full name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento is good and stable. He may be able to return home in the next few days.
Pele, who is currently 81 years old, had a tumor that had just been removed from his colon in September 2021. Since then he has been going back and forth to the hospital for regular treatment.
The former Santos and New York Cosmos player has suffered from a series of health problems in recent years. That included hip surgery which left him with repeated pains and difficulty walking without crutches.
In February, he was hospitalized for chemotherapy when a urinary tract infection was identified. The chemotherapy allowed him to last longer than expected.
Pele is considered by many to be the greatest footballer of all time. He is the only player in history to win three World Cups, namely in 1958, 1962, and 1970. In his country, Pele is known as “O Rei” or “King”.
