Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s Criticism: Boxing Is Very Loose Now, Everyone Easily Becomes A Champion

JAKARTA - Floyd Mayweather Jr. again made a statement that rocked the main governing body of professional boxing.

As he prepares for his May 14 exhibition bout against Don Moore on the helipad of a Dubai hotel, the former super welterweight champion criticized the modest ways of a fighter who has now managed to win the title in the absence of the reigning champion.

"Boxing is very loose now, it's easy for everyone to win. I'm not criticizing any boxer, I'm just talking about me, I've never won an empty belt. Every time I win a belt, I go and beat the champion to get it," Money said, as quoted from Marca, Wednesday, April 13.

"Nothing was left to me. I was never Floyd Mayweather supporting me and telling me you can be great," he continued.

And Mayweather's statement is correct. Because the World Boxing Council, World Boxing Association (WBA), and even the International Boxing Federation (IBF) have created so many new titles up for grabs.

So when a champion gets tired of waiting for a competent opponent to defend his status, he chooses to change divisions and leave the belt empty at the mercy of any mid-level boxer who could aspire to earn it.

In Money's case, the level of competition was high when he stepped into the ring. He gets every chance to become universal champion in the super featherweight, lightweight, super lightweight, welterweight and super welterweight divisions in a more elegant way.

And for those who criticize his style of defending the titles he once held, it is enough to know that he has won by knockout in more than half of the recorded fights of his career, 27 out of 50.
