JAKARTA - The coach of the Egyptian national team, Carlos Queiroz must let go and end his tenure in the team. This step was taken as a consequence of the failure of Mohamed Salah and his friends to the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

In the third round of qualifying for the Africa zone, Wednesday, March 30, early morning WIB, Egypt lost on penalties to Senegal. Both teams had to go through a shootout due to a 1-1 draw on aggregate. In the high-fives round, Senegal won 3-1.

In addition to ending Egypt's journey to the 2022 World Cup, the defeat also ended Carlos Queiroz's tenure as coach. He had to resign from his position in the Egyptian national team because previously there was a contract termination clause if Egypt could not appear in the World Cup.

"It's time for me to hand over the leadership in the Egyptian national team to someone else. Today my dream was to take Egypt to the World Cup but it turned out that (Aliou) Cisse was finally able to qualify with Senegal," Queiroz was quoted as saying by Kingfut.

"Game over. We, unfortunately, failed to qualify for the World Cup. It's over and there's not much more to say," he added.

Furthermore, Queiroz admits qualifying for the World Cup is a dream for every country. But his team's best efforts still haven't brought them to that big dream.

"Everyone is talking about the World Cup because it is a very special tournament because it takes place every four years," said the former Portugal coach.

"Today we are trying hard to do everything possible (to qualify for the World Cup), but there are 230 countries competing for the World Cup, and only the best can qualify," he continued.

Egypt's defeat to Senegal in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers seemed to repeat their failure in the African Cup of Nations. At that time Egypt also lost to Senegal in the final.

"I want to meet Cisse again and beat him. But maybe if I work like him who seven years with Senegal, maybe I can win it," said the man who had handled Real Madrid.
