JAKARTA – A total of seven countries have confirmed themselves to get tickets to the 2022 World Cup Qatar on Wednesday, March 30 in the morning. Thus, a total of 27 countries have qualified for the four-year event.

The seven latest tickets were pocketed by two countries from the European zone and five other countries from Africa. The two European zone countries that passed were Poland and Portugal, while five from Africa, namely Ghana, Morocco, Tunisia, Cameroon, and Senegal.

The Portugal national team qualified after eliminating North Macedonia with a 2-0 win in the play off match at the Stadion do Dragao. The two winning goals were bought up by Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

Poland also got Qatar tickets after winning with the same score over Sweden. The winning goal was decided by a Robert Lewandowski penalty and a Piotr Zieliński goal.

From the African zone, Egypt certainly did not qualify for this year's World Cup after being bent by Senegal. Both teams had the same 1-1 aggregate when the second meeting finished, so they had to win Qatar's ticket via penalty shootout. In this round, Egypt lost by a score 1-3.

Sadio Mane scored the winning penalty in that shootout to send Senegal into the 2022 World Cup. Meanwhile, Liverpool team-mate Mohamed Salah missed a penalty for Egypt.

Ghana was the first team to qualify after a 1-1 draw against Nigeria. Previously Black Stars and Nigeria played a goalless draw in the first leg which took place in Ghana.

Thomas Partey opened the scoring for the visitors before being matched by a William Troost-Ekong penalty. Then Cameroon clinched an eighth World Cup qualifier - a record for an African team - after a dramatic final in Algeria.

Trailing 1-0 from the first leg, Karl Toko-Ekambi's first-half goal meant the game had to go into extra time. Algeria looked to have won the match thanks to Ahmed Touba's header in the 118th minute.

However, Toko-Ekambi scored again in the fourth minute of added time to surprise the home crowd at Blida. Cameroon also qualified for Qatar with an away goal productivity advantage.

Meanwhile, Tunisia made back-to-back World Cup appearances after a goalless draw in Tunis beating Mali 1-0 on aggregate. Morocco had a relatively comfortable night as a 4-1 home win over Congo ensured they qualified with a 5-2 aggregate advantage over two legs.

There are still five slots remaining after 27 countries ensured themselves to qualify for Qatar. On Thursday, there will be two additional countries from the Concacaf zone (Central and North America), while the other three slots will only be known in June.
