Beat Egypt 3-1, Senegal Advance To 2022 World Cup

JAKARTA - The Senegal national team has confirmed itself to advance to the 2022 World Cup finals after eliminating Egypt in the second leg of the third qualifying play-off at the Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium, Dakar, Tuesday evening local time (Wednesday morning, western Indonesia time).

Quoted from Antara, Senegal eliminated Egypt on penalties with a score of 3-1 after 120 minutes of playing 1-1 on aggregate.

Having lost 0-1 in Cairo due to an own goal by Saliou Ciss, Senegal equalized in Dakar thanks to an own goal scored by Egypt midfielder Hamdi Fathi.

Senegal's success in advancing to the Qatar 2022 World Cup finals is the third time in history after previously appearing in the 2002 edition in South Korea-Japan and 2018 in Russia.

In that match, Senegal took the initiative to attack first and was able to score a goal in the 4th minute which started from Idrissa Gueye's free-kick.

The shot from Gueye was not well anticipated by midfielder Hamdi Fathi so the ball went into the Egyptian goal and changed the score to 1-0 for Senegal's advantage.

After the goal was created, both teams were unable to score again until normal time and extra time was over, so it was continued to the penalty shootout because the aggregate was 1-1.

In the penalty shootout, Senegal's three kickers Ismaila Sarr, Bamba Dieng and Sadio Mane were able to carry out their duties well, while Egypt was only able to complete one kick through Amr El Solia.

The result saw Senagal secure a ticket to the 2022 World Cup finals, following Ghana who beat Nigeria 1-1 on aggregate but went ahead on away goals.
