Lyon Qualifies For Europa League Quarter-finals, Peter Bosz: Great Things Still Await Us

JAKARTA – Olympique Lyon coach Peter Bosz was delighted to see the stadium atmosphere as they drew 1-1 with FC Porto in the 2021-2022 Europa League last 16 on Friday, March 18.

In that match, the home crowd packed the Parc LO stadium as a witness to their favorite team pocketing tickets to the quarter-finals.

"We want to give our best and when I saw the atmosphere in the stadium tonight, I said to myself that this European campaign still has great things waiting for us," Bosz said, quoted by the club's official website.

Despite playing in a draw, Les Gones has the right to advance to the quarter-finals for winning 2-1 on aggregate. When they met in the first leg on 10 March, Lyon won 1-0 at the do Dragao Stadium.

In the second leg match, the hosts managed to take a quick lead when the match had not been running for a quarter of an hour. Moussa Dembele managed to put his team ahead after taking advantage of the counter-attack well in the 13th minute.

The visitors then hit back 14 minutes later on the counter-attack as well. Pepe Aquino successfully recorded his name on the scoreboard, but unfortunately a draw did not manage to get Porto into the last eight.

"Porto are in first place in the Portuguese League and this team is made up of extraordinary players. We played against a very good team," said Bosz.

"I think we played better than the first leg. The end was intense but could have been less if we had scored more goals," he added.

Lyon is now waiting for opponents for the last eight matches later. The draw for the quarter-finals will be held on Friday, March 18 at 19.30 p.m. Indonesian Western Time (WIB) or after the draw for the quarter-finals of the European Champions League.
