JAKARTA – The Indonesian U-19 national team will undergo nine test matches during the training camp in South Korea. That is their preparation for the 2023 U-20 World Cup.

Shin Tae-yong's squad departed for Korea in the early hours of Saturday, March 12. They held a training camp in the Ginseng Country from March 13 tomorrow to April 10.

"We hope that the players can improve their performance there," said the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) General Chair Mochamad Iriawan at the release of the U-19 Indonesia national team to South Korea, in Jakarta on Friday night, quoted by ANTARA.

One of Indonesia's opponents is the South Korean U-19 national team. Korea was chosen as the opponent because they are projected to compete in the U-20 World Cup later.

In addition, the Indonesian U-19 national team will face several youth club teams and university teams. The selection of a formidable opponent is expected to provide a competitive experience for the Garuda Muda squad.

A total of 34 players were called to attend the training camp to South Korea. However, only 32 of them departed first on Friday.

Two other players will follow later. One of them is Persebaya Surabaya midfielder Marselino Ferdinand.

"We are waiting for Marselino's development at Persebaya, who still has a chance to win the 2022 Indonesian Liga 1. However, we hope that Marselino can join South Korea starting March 27, 2022," said Iriawan.

Indonesia will play one game out of nine test matches in Yeongdeok. Meanwhile, they will play eight other matches in Daegu.

PSSI said there was a possibility that the U-19 national team would pass an additional match which would be determined later.
