JAKARTA - The Sulawesi 1 Housing Provision Agency (BP2P) is building 200 permanent housing units (huntap) in Modisi Village, South Bolaang Mongondow Regency, for residents affected by the eruption of Mount Ruang in Sitaro Islands Regency, North Sulawesi.

"Currently, we have completed the construction of 200 units of the target total of 287 huntap units," said Lanny Mamudi, PPK of Flats and Special Houses, in Manado, Monday, as quoted by ANTARA.

Lanny explained that all the huntaps built have earthquake-resistant specifications, similar to the huntap previously built in Palu, Central Sulawesi, for victims of the liquefaction disaster.

The plan is that the huntap in Modisi Village will be intended for residents from two villages that previously lived on Ruang Island. Meanwhile, the huntap in Pumpente and Laingpatehi villages is targeted for completion in March 2025.

"If there are no significant obstacles, the entire construction of this huntap will be completed in March 2025," he added.

However, he admitted that the construction process had faced problems due to land ownership claims by a number of residents at the huntap construction site.

"Only a few people made claims, but it still has an impact on the smooth running of the development process. Our job is to carry out development according to mandate," explained Lanny.

Apart from BP2P, other technical units are also involved in the construction of supporting facilities in the huntap area, such as village offices, drinking water supply systems (SPAM), houses of worship, and various other infrastructures.

Residents of Pumpente and Laingpatehi villages, who previously lived on Ruang Island, were finally relocated after the eruption of Mount Ruang destroyed their settlements.
