The Search For Passengers Of The Norwegian Luxury Cruise Ship Who Fell Into The Sea Was Stopped

JAKARTA - The incident of passengers falling off a cruise ship is a rare event and has had a huge emotional impact. Recently, Thursday, December 27, a 51-year-old man fell off the Norwegian Cruise Line cruise ship.

A spokesman from the shipping company confirmed to Fox News Digital, quoted on Saturday, December 28, the search for passengers falling into the sea had been stopped.

The incident was first discovered at around 3 p.m. when Norwegian Epic was sailing fromung Rios, Jamaica to Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas.

The spokesman said the passenger was sailing with his family. The cruise ship departed from Port Canaveral, Florida on Saturday, December 21 and was a seven-night voyage in the Western Caribbean.

The shipping company said authorities were immediately notified and search and rescue efforts were imminent.

"After an extensive search that unfortunately failed, the ship was allowed by the authorities to continue its voyage," the spokesman said.

Norwegian Cruise Line says the passenger's family aboard the ship is in mourning and continues to be supported during this very challenging situation.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the people who loved him during this difficult time," the spokesman added.

Norwegian Epic, which was built in 2010 and renovated in 2020, has 19 decks. The ship can accommodate 4,070 passengers with double housing in its cabin and has 1,724 crew members.

It is not yet known exactly what caused the man to fall into the sea. The man's identity has not been disclosed.
