High Rainfall, Two Villages In Poso Regency Soak Floods

JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Central Sulawesi Province (Sulteng) reported that two villages were flooded in Poso Regency due to high rainfall.

Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of Central Sulawesi Province BPBD Andy Sembiring said floods hit Watuawu Village in Lage District and Bega Village in Poso Pesisir District.

"The flood incident occurred on Saturday (14/12) triggered by high rainfall so that river water in the local village overflowed and inundated residential areas," Andy said, quoting ANTARA, Sunday, December 15.

He explained, as many as 125 houses were flooded in Bega Village and public facilities such as two school buildings, one mosque, and the local village office were also flooded.

He said there were no casualties in this incident, but at this time it is urgent to repair waterways in Bega Village.

As for Watuawu Village, he said, the number of houses affected was still being collected, while one family head (KK) fled to a safe place.

He added that landslides also occurred in Pandiri Village, Lage District on Saturday (14/2) night, which divides the Trans Sulawesi road right at a sharp bend of about 20 meters.

According to him, the location is prone, especially as a route from Tentena to Poso and can endanger motorists.

His party is also still coordinating with BPBD Poso Regency in handling floods and landslides.

The local BPBD Rapid Response Team (TRC), he said, is currently still coordinating with local village officials and conducting field assessments.

"The Pandiri Village apparatus and TNI-Polri personnel have installed police lines and carried out security," he said.
