Trump's Response, President Zelensky Says Peace Is Not Just A Paper Sheet And Needs Guarantee

JAKARTA - Ukrainian President Volodymry Zelensky said peace was not just a piece of paper, it still needed guarantees, responding to Donald Trump's call for a ceasefire with Russia.

Trump's comments on the ceasefire and negotiations between Russia-Ukraine were delivered after meeting with President Zelensky last Saturday in Paris, France.

"When we talk about effective peace with Russia, we must first talk about effective guarantees for peace. The Ukrainian people want peace more than anyone else," President Zelensky tweeted on social media X.

"(The war) cannot just end on a piece of paper and some signatures. A ceasefire without guarantees can be revived at any time, as (Russian President) Putin has done before. To ensure the Ukrainian people no longer suffer losses, we must ensure the reliability of peace and not turn a blind eye to the occupation," President Zelensky said.

Trump, the President-elect of the United States of Republicans had previously promised to end the conflict through negotiations, but has so far not provided details.

"Zelensky and Ukraine want to make a deal and stop the craze," Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social, adding Kyiv had lost about 400,000 troops.

"There should be an immediate ceasefire and negotiations should begin," he continued.

"I know Vladimir well. This is the time for him to act. China can help. The world is waiting!" Trump added, referring to Russian President Putin.

It appears that the Trump numbers that say 400,000 Ukrainian soldiers lost in the war are dead and injured. President Zelensky said 43,000 soldiers were killed in the war and there were 370,000 injured.

Trump, who is in Paris for the reopening of the Notre-Dame Cathedral, sat with President Zelensky on Saturday for about an hour, along with host President Emmanuel Macron.
