There Is A Boycott Of Israel's Affiliated Products, The Vice President Asks For Institutions Related To Explanating Products At The MUI Fatwa

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin asked related institutions to provide technical explanations regarding products affiliated with Israel so that the Fatwa of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Number 83 of 2023 does not have a broad impact on unrelated economic sectors.

"So that it doesn't go anywhere, there must be an explanation from the relevant parties, who know exactly which products are affiliated, so that they don't go anywhere, crash everywhere," said Vice President Ma'ruf when asked for a response on the sidelines of his working visit in Athens, Greece, reported by ANTARA, Friday, November 24.

The vice president said the MUI Fatwa on the Law of Support for the Palestinian Struggle is a form of MUI's support for the struggle of the Palestinian people. The MUI policy is in accordance with the internal procedures of the institution and is also in line with the government that supports Palestinian independence.

"MUI certainly carries out its duties in order to support Palestine, as well as in line with the government. In addition to holding a general meeting, he also made a fatwa to sign that he supports it," he said,

However, Ma'ruf agrees that a technical explanation is needed so that the MUI Fatwa does not have a broad impact and is detrimental to many parties who are not related to Israel.

"So that it doesn't go anywhere, it hits everywhere, so it can also harm many parties, but the fatwa is in order to support, provide support to Palestine," said Ma'ruf. Previously, the Director General (Dirjen) of Domestic Trade of the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) Isy Karim said the preparation of a list of boycotts for products affiliated with Israel needed to be carried out selectively so that information circulating in the community was not half-hearted.

Karim conveyed that the fatwa of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) regarding the prohibition of the use of products affiliated with Israel is in line with the government's attitude in defending Palestinian independence. However, a deeper study is needed to choose which products are directly affiliated and not. The Ministry of Trade is trying to further study which products are included in the banned list for use, in an effort to support Palestine.
