Jokowi Talks About IKN At US University

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo spoke about the development of the capital city of the archipelago (IKN) in front of the citizens of the University ofturbation, in Washington DC, United States, Monday (13/11) local time.

After giving a policy speech at the university, the President received questions from the University ofturbative Affairs regarding Indonesia's ambitious plans for IKN development to overcome the sustainability, feasibility of occupancy and economic development.

"Nusantara,new capital city is the concept of a smart forest city, a modern city that is environmentally friendly," Jokowi explained as shown on the YouTube page of the Presidential Secretariat, Tuesday, November 14.

President Jokowi said 70 percent of IKN's land is green, in the form of forests that are currently monoculture, which will then be repaired into heterogeneous forests that will approach tropical rainforests.

"And 80 percent will use public transportation for electric vehicles and 100 percent of the residents must use electric vehicles, so that later it will become a truly green city, which is suitable to live in together," he said.

Therefore, said Jokowi, the first to be built in IKN is a nursery center or botanical center, which produces approximately 15-16 million seeds every year, which will be planted, both in IKN and on the island of Kalimantan.

"So that the area becomes a very green area and the electricity plant is green energy, both from solar panels and from hydropower, and we hope that we will be able to live with this in August 2024," he said.
