JAKARTA - Candidate for TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto confirmed that he and his institution will be neutral in the upcoming 2024 election. He asked all parties to remove doubts regarding the neutrality of the TNI after he served as TNI Commander.
"There should be no doubt about me," said General Agus Subiyanto at his residence in Cipayung, East Jakarta, Monday, November 13.
Agus explained that his commitment to the 2024 General Election had been confirmed during a fit and proper test at Commission I of the DPR today. As mandated by Law Number 34 of 2004 concerning the TNI.
"There it is clear that the active TNI should not be practical in politics. Then in the Election Law Number 7 of 2017 it was emphasized again that if you participate in politics, you are practically subject to sanctions, the sanctions are criminal or disciplinary punishment from your superiors," explained Agus.
As for the steps that have been taken regarding the neutrality of the TNI, Agus said, he has provided counseling and emphasis to all members of the TNI to the lowest rank, what to do and not do.
"And I have made individual pocket books, they are in the soldiers' pockets to be read and understood and implemented," said Agus.
Regarding the president's directive, Agus only said that the TNI had been sworn in to serve the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia and the 1945 Constitution.
"Yes, we have a Satta marga and a soldier's oath, yes, we just follow it, there are limits. What is clear is that the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia is based on Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution. So my guide is the family of the army," said Agus.
