President Jokowi Expresses Deep Concern Over The Palestinian Situation At The OKI Summit

JAKARTA - The President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, was seen embracing the President of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, while expressing deep concern over the events that occurred in Palestine.

The meeting between Jokowi and President Abbas took place on the sidelines of the Extraordinary High Level Conference of Organizations for Islamic Cooperation (OKI) at the King Abdulaziz International Convention Center, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Saturday, November 11 local time, based on a photo caption shared by the Press Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta.

Jokowi, before leaving for Riyadh from Sidoarjo, East Java, Friday night, stated that the Extraordinary OIC Summit was very important as an additional effort to stop Israeli attacks on the Palestinian people.

During the summit, Jokowi stated his intention to reinforce calls for a ceasefire to be implemented and humanitarian aid to be enlarged.

President Jokowi arrived in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday morning, after traveling for approximately 11 hours from Indonesia. After that, Jokowi will continue his journey to Washington DC, United States, on November 12, 2023, to meet with US President Joe Biden.

Bilateral meetings with Joe Biden are scheduled to be used by Jokowi to voice Indonesia's firm position regarding the situation in Gaza, a conflict area in Palestine.

"This visit is a good opportunity to convey the results of the OIC Summit in Riyadh, which reflects the solidarity of OIC countries to defend justice and humanity," said President Jokowi.
