JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Directorate General of Highways conducted a trial of the contactless toll transaction system or Multi Lane Free Flow (MLFF) in Bali in December 2023.
"We are preparing a pilot project in Bali this December. So we only try one gate in Bali," said Bina Marga Director General (Dirjen) Hedy Rahadian as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, November 8.
Hedy said that his party conducted a small-scale trial on the Bali Mandara toll road, which was further expanded across all gates and roads operating.
His party has coordinated with PT Roatex Indonesia Toll System (RITS) to equalize perceptions regarding the implementation of MLFF in Bali.
Coordination with the Hungarian company was carried out, including on system synchronization and technical issues to ensure that the implementation of contactless toll payments really worked well and did not become a new problem in the future.
"Later, if it is successful there, we will evaluate it. If there is no new issue, we will expand it to other gates in Bali as well. So we will evaluate the results in stages," he said.
Hedy said that MLFF's operational support outside Bali has been installed on the Jagorawi and Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) S toll roads.
"Development of (in Jagorawi) for preparation is okay," he said.

The MLFF-based non-cash transaction system is one of the new innovations through a contactless payment system by creating efficiency, effectiveness, security, and comfort in implementing the toll road payment system in Indonesia.
With the implementation of MLFF, the toll road is completely a freeway or there are no more barriers at the toll gate.
Traffic on toll roads is supervised with the support of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology through the machine.
