YOGYAKARTA People are advised to know the criteria for households that must have a permit to use ground water. This is because the Government has imposed a permit to use clean water taken from the ground.

However, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) through the Acting Head of the Geological Agency Muhammad Wafid explained that not all households need permission to use groundwater. So what are the criteria required for permission to use ground water?

As is known, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has just issued Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources No. 291.K/GL.01/MEM.G/2023 concerning the Standard for Implementing Approval for Groundwater Use. The regulation states that households must report to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources if they extract groundwater. However, this rule only applies to households that meet certain criteria, namely using large amounts of ground water, both from drill wells and excavations.

Based on the rules, it is stated that people or households who must have permits are those who use certain amounts of groundwater, which is greater than 100 m3 per month.

In a written statement, the Head of the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Muhammad Wafid explained that most households in Indonesia do not need permission considering that water needs do not meet the criteria.

"Don't worry, most households in Indonesia do not require permission (use of ground water), because the average use is only 20-30 m3 per month, far below 100 cubic meters per month," explained Muhammad Wafid.

Wafid also explained that the figure set at 100m3 or 100,000 liters is a very large amount.

"100 m3 is equivalent to 200 times filling water reservoirs with a volume of 500 liters or the equivalent of an elimination of 5,000 gallons of 20 liters of volume," explained Wafid.

People who use large amounts of groundwater according to the criteria must apply for a permit in the following way.
