Jayapura Health Office Requires Pregnant Women To Test HIV/AIDS

JAYAPURA - Jayapura City Health Office, Papua requires all pregnant women in the area to undergo human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquisition immunity syndrome (AIDS) tests. "This is so that babies are not infected with new infections so pregnant women must take HIV/AIDS tests," said Head of the Jayapura City Health Office Ni Nyoman Sri Antari in Jayapura, Antara, Monday, November 6. According to Sri, in 2023 as many as 46 pregnant women who were HIV/AIDS positive from 2,646 who had been examined. Meanwhile, when the VCT mobile was carried out, 31 pregnant women were found to be positive and wanted to be tested for HIV/AIDS. He explained that his party will continue to make efforts to prevent HIV/AIDS by collaborating with relevant agencies including religious institutions in the area. "In principle, health problems are not only the health office that handles them but requires the cooperation of all parties to deal with them, including malaria and tuberculosis (TBC)," he said. He added that his party also appealed to patients who were HIV/AIDS positive to continue to take regular medicines so that they could increase their immune system. "Drugs for HIV/AIDS can be obtained at 10 health centers in Jayapura City, which are now able to treat HIV/AIDS," he said again. He said the number of people belonging to the risky group that had been tested was 4,059 from January to September 2023 and 104 people who tested positive for HIV/AIDS.

"In addition, in 2023, we will also carry out mobile VCT HIV/AIDS for groups with stamps targeting 3,426 people so that the total we have tested is 7,500 people," he said.
