MOJOKERTO - Joint officers and volunteers moved quickly to fight against forest and land fires (karhutla) that occurred in Gunung Penangsungan (1,653 mdpl), Mojokerto Regency, East Java.

The Head of Emergency and Logistics of the Mojokerto Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Abdul Khakim, said the officers moved to extinguish the fire through three climbing routes of Mount Penanggan, namely Tamiajeng Post, Kedungudi Post, and Ngoro Post.

"Officers are currently extinguishing the fire which occurred, dominated by weeds and shrubs," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, November 2.

Volunteers and joint officers have gone up to extinguish the Mount Penangsangan forest and land fires.

"We use blackouts in traditional ways using tree branches (gebyok)," he said.

The cause of these forest and land fires cannot be ascertained and the extent of the forest and land fires is still being calculated.

"People can help extinguish the fire by climbing the Tamiajeng Post, and Kedungudi Post," he said.

Gunung Penanggan Karhutla from the information gathered was also seen up to Jalan Arteri Porong, and from Tambakrejo Village, Krembung District. "The fire was clearly seen this afternoon," said Ahmad, a resident of Sidoarjo.
