JAKARTA - The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) confirmed that there were additional cases of monkeypox in Indonesia on Tuesday (31/10) to 27 cases.

Director General of Disease Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Health Maxi Rein Rondonuwu said there were three new cases originating from DKI Jakarta.

Based on domicile, he said there were 22 active cases in DKI Jakarta, four active cases in Banten, and one active case in Bandung.

"All of them are transmitted through sexual contact," said Maxi as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 31.

He explained that as many as 42 percent of the total cases were dominated by patients aged 25 to 39 years. The number of patients aged 18 to 24 years was 12 percent lower.

To tackle monkeypox in Indonesia, he said, the Ministry of Health has carried out a number of surveillance and vaccination efforts against the risk key population of 477 targets since October 23, as well as working with various parties in conducting risk communication to minimize the transmission of monkeypox to more people.

He also emphasized the importance of Clean and Healthy Life Behavior (PHBS) and having sex safely.

Therefore, MAxi said that the openness of a key group of risks to health workers is needed to trace this case so that the handling of monkeypox becomes maximized.

"We really need this positive group openness. If they are open, it will be very easy for us to do tracing," said Maxi Rein Rondonuwu.
