Puan Regarding The News Jokowi Asked The President For 3 Periods: As Far As I Know He Never Asked For An Extension

Chairman of the PDI-P (PDIP) DPP Puan Maharani admitted that she did not know about the meeting between President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri to ask for an extension of the presidential term. Puan said that Jokowi had never asked for an extension of his 3-term term.

This was conveyed in response to a statement by PDIP politician Adian Napitupulu who said Jokowi's attitude had changed because he had asked for an extension of the presidential term to three terms but was rejected. This rejection is based on maintaining the state of the country.

"Never (there was a meeting, ed). As far as I know he (President Jokowi, ed) has asked for an extension of three terms," said Puan to reporters at the High End building, Kebon Sirih, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, October 25.

Puan explained that the constitution has regulated the term of office of a president to be five years and can be extended only once if he returns to progress and is elected.

"So if there is an extension, where is the mechanism from," he said.

"There is no mechanism that then allows us to extend or do three terms," continued the chairman of the DPR.

Meanwhile, regarding the news of the rift between President Jokowi and PDIP, Puan refuses to talk about it. He even admitted that he had just met Jokowi during the Commemoration of Santri Day in Surabaya, East Java on Sunday, October 22.

"It's okay, how come the last communication was met on Santri Day," he said.

As previously reported, Adian said that Jokowi and his family changed their attitude because the discourse on extending the presidential term was rejected by his party. However, he doesn't care about this condition because PDIP is now focusing on winning Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD.

"How can I not think about Gibran. How can I not think about Jokowi. What I think about is how to add one, one, one votes every day to Ganjar," said Adian in his written statement, Wednesday, October 25.
