3 Meter Crocodiles Stuck In Fishermen's Nets, Natuna Firefighters Evacuate Release Back In Their Habitat

JAKARTA - Fire Department (Disdamkar) officers rescued the three-meter-long estuarine crocodile that entered the net of residents in Bunguran Timur Laut District, Natuna Regency, Riau Islands (Kepri).

Head of Section (Kasi) Rescue and Evacuation of the Natuna Disdamkar Trendy Madyariska said the incident of the crocodile being caught belonging to a resident of Seleman Village took place on Saturday, October 21, 2023.

They got that information from local residents' reports.

Receiving the report, he said, his party immediately dispatched a team to carry out rescue.

"We received the report at 18.30 WIB," he said, confiscated by Antara.

Arriving at the location, Trendy continued, his party immediately carried out the rescue and the evacuation process only took 1.5 hours.

"There were no obstacles when evacuating," said Trendy.

He added that when evacuating the crocodile, his party was also assisted by the TNI and local residents.

He revealed that currently the crocodile has been released into its habitat, namely the Penarek River, Cemaga Village, Bunguran Selatan District.

"We evacuated in the big river area in the driver," said Trendy.

For this incident, he appealed to the public to always be careful when playing and looking for fish in the river considering that many crocodiles have roamed or left their habitat.

"We hope to be careful because there are already many crocodiles," he said.
