JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Health Office has again confirmed a new case of monkeypox or monkeypox based on the results of the examination as of October 19.

Head of the Surveillance, Epidemiology and Immunization Section of the Ngabila Health Service, Salama, said that this case had no contact related to the case that was previously found on October 12, 2023.

Thus, there have been 3 cases of monkeypox in residents in DKI Jakarta. The first case was found in August 2022.

"The third case of monkeypox is a separate case, not a close contact of the second case," Ngabila said in a short message, Friday, October 20.

In the findings of this case, the DKI Health Office conducted an active case finding on people who could potentially be infected or transmitted, especially in close contacts of detected cases.

As a result, the DKI Health Office has not found any new cases other than the two monkeypox patients.

"All the close contacts of these 2 new positive cases are not symptomatic. We only monitor developments per day. As soon as there are symptoms, the laboratory immediately examines them," explained Ngabila.

Currently, the two monkeypox patients are being isolated to break the chain of transmission. Specifically in the second case, the man who was confirmed to have a monkeypox case is known to have no history of overseas travel.

There is a possibility that the person concerned is infected from other people in the country. Thus, it is possible that there are other cases of monkeypox in Indonesia that have not been detected.
