JAKARTA - Installation of the reflective markings of the cat's eyes on bicycle lanes in Jakarta is only to replace the broken cone poles (stickcone) and has been removed.

"A replacement is made for those who are appointed, if those who are still good, not appointed," said Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) Syafrin Liputo, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 18.

He explained that the lifting of the cone pole did not erase the bicycle lane because the revocation was to replace the damaged pole so that the bicycle lane would be neater.

The installation of the cat's eye as a bicycle lane barrier is also because the DKI Transportation Agency does not yet have the budget to install a new cone pole.

From the results of the inventory, his party found that some of the cone poles installed on bicycle lanes on 13 roads throughout Jakarta were damaged, generally due to being hit by motorized vehicles.

"So far, many bicycle lanes have been attached'stick cone', but were then hit and damaged," said Syafrin.

Meanwhile, member of Commission B of the DKI DPRD, Suhud Alynudin, said that he supports the lifting of the cone pole on the bicycle lane, as long as it is replaced with a better device.

It is emphasized that bicycle lanes in DKI Jakarta must be maintained, because this is a symbol of sustainable city development. "It is a setback if the bicycle lane is not maintained. It is a symbol of civilization and the alignment of our city with a clean lifestyle," he said.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government had targeted a total length of bicycle lanes to reach 535.68 km by 2026. Meanwhile, according to the records of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, 309.5 km of bicycle lanes are available in Jakarta as of the end of 2022.

The bicycle lane consists of protected lanes that are limited by cone poles, open lanes that share with other road users and are limited to road margins, and lanes on sidewalks.
