Corruption Of Grant Funds, Former Head Of Bawaslu Karo Sued 7.5 Years In Prison

The defendants Eva Juliani Br Pandia, former Chairman of Bawaslu, Karo Regency (right) and Dian Ika Yoes Refida, were former treasurer of the Karo/ANTARA Bawaslu expenditure.

The Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Karo District Attorney (Kejari) has demanded Eva Juliani Br Pandia, the former chairman of the Karo Regency Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) for 7.5 years in prison.

Eva is believed by the prosecutor to be involved in the corruption case of grant funds for the 2019 fiscal year for the election for the Regent and Deputy Regent of Karo 2020-2024.

In addition to the defendant EvaJuliani Br Pandia, also the prosecutor defendant Dian Ika Yoes Refida, a former treasurer of Bawaslu Karo expenses for 5.5 years in prison.

"Terdakwa Eva Juliani juga dikenakan denda Rp250 juta subsider tiga bulan penjara, sementara terdakwa Dian Ika dikenakan denda Rp200 juta subsider tiga bulan penjara," ujar JPU Kejari Karo Alfonso Manurung dilansir ANTARA, Rabu, 18 Oktober.

The prosecutors believe that the two defendants have fulfilled the elements of committing criminal acts Article 2 paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law No. 31 has been amended by Law No. 20 of 2021 concerning the eradication of criminal acts of corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st KHUPidana.

Alfonso said that the defendant Eva Juliani was also charged with replacement money (UP) worth Rp. 821 million, provided that after the case had permanent legal force, the defendant's property was confiscated and auctioned off by the prosecutor. If it is not sufficient, the UP will be replaced with a sentence of 3.5 years in prison.

Meanwhile, Dian Ika was charged with an UP of Rp. 212 million with the provision that after the case had permanent legal force, the defendant's property was confiscated and auctioned off by the prosecutor. If it is not sufficient, the UP will be replaced with a sentence of 2.5 years in prison.

The indictment revealed that Bawaslu Karo Regency received a grant for the 2019 fiscal year of Rp13,388,152,300. It's just that the two defendants cannot be held accountable for allegedly causing state losses of Rp1.6 billion due to personal interests.
