JAKARTA - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) urges the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) and the National Police to block online game sites that contain elements of gambling.
"I am sure that until now the government, in this case Kominfo and Polri, can do that (block) online game sites that contain elements of violence and gambling, should have been screened," said KPAI Commissioner Diyah Puspitarini, Antara, Sunday, October 15.
This was conveyed by Diyah in response to the phenomenon of students' age playing online gambling based on the research results of the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK).
He said that the blocking of these sites was a decisive step that the government had to take as an effort to protect children from the bad influence of online gambling.
"Kominfo and the police can deploy cybercrime to be able to detect early symptoms like this from where they came, I'm sure yes. Porn sites can be deleted, our country can," he said.
According to Diyah, the rise of minors accessing online gaming sites that are affiliated with online gambling is based on the high curiosity of children.
Children who have become victims of online gambling generally experience addiction and tend not to stop playing continuously. This high feeling of addiction will also have an impact on reducing physical activity.
"Usually, if he has entered a high level, he will definitely look for new challenges. Well, one of them is a bet, there is an element at stake when it comes to online gambling, right," he said.

Parents are required to increase digital literacy so as not to stutter about technological developments that change quickly so that they can be optimal in supervising their children.
"KPAI will also supervise and advocate cases like this (online gambling in children) not only in big cities, because this case seems evenly distributed," he said.
The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) analyzed more than 159 million transactions related to online gambling throughout 2023. The transaction value is said to reach Rp160 trillion. From the data, it is stated that not a few minors are involved in online gambling.
