KSPSI Affirms Neutrality In The 2024 Election

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI) Yorrys Raweyai emphasized that his organization decided to be neutral in the 2024 General Election.

"In the momentum of the upcoming presidential election, KSPSI is not going anywhere, but is everywhere," he said in a written statement in Jakarta, Sunday, October 8, which was confiscated by Antara.

Yorrys said the decision was agreed upon by 12 leaders of the Federation of Workers Unions (FSP) under the KSPSI, in a plenary meeting held on Saturday, October 7 in Jakarta.

KSPSI, he continued, decided to take a neutral stance. In an institutional manner, KSPSI does not direct the choice of party or certain presidential candidate pairs.

The chairman of Committee II of the DPD RI emphasized that the reason for this choice was taken to maintain the solidity and solidarity of KSPSI members. Currently, the members are taking many individual political paths with diverse political backgrounds and tendencies.

In addition, Yorrys emphasized that workers' organizations have always been one of the important elements in every moment of political contestation. This position must be utilized properly and elegantly without sacrificing the interests and main goals of the worker organization, namely coaching, protection and welfare.

Currently, he said, several KSPSI members at various levels of central and regional management have been actively involved as candidates for legislative members, both at the central and district/city levels (DPRD) from different political party channels.

In fact, some of them have also become volunteers and supporters of certain presidential candidates. Therefore, institutionally, the organization completely leaves these political choices to each individual.

However, Yorrys, who also again ran for the 2024 General Election as a member of the DPD RI from the Central Papua electoral district, handed over the authority to 12 trade union federations under his leadership to direct support for certain political parties or presidential candidates.

"KSPSI only gives rights and authority to each federation, if they want to direct support to certain political parties or presidential candidates," he said.
