Ministry Of Religion To Synchronize Rules With Saudis Regarding Backpaker Umrah

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) will synchronize regulations with regulations in Saudi Arabia regarding independent Umrah or backpackers which have recently become one of the people's choices to go to the Holy Land.

"We will synchronize the existing regulations in us and those in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, because it cannot be unilateral. Our regulations are not necessarily compatible with existing regulations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia," said Minister of Religion (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas quoted by ANTARA, Friday, October 6.

Yaqut said that so far there has been no prohibition for people who want to perform Umrah independently without going through Umrah Travel Organizers (PPIU).

On the other hand, he said, the Government of Saudi Arabia is also currently intensively promoting tourism in order to realize Saudi vision 2030, so they open anyone to visit Saudi Arabia.

"That basically the Saudi Arabian government wants everyone who enters their country, be it the interests of Hajj and Umrah, business, tourism, and other interests to ensure safety, health, and comfort," said Minister of Religion Yaqut.
