Medan District Court Judge Sentenced Courier 10 Grams Of Shabu 9 Years In Prison

The panel of judges at the Medan District Court, North Sumatra, sentenced the defendant Zulham alias Zul to nine years in prison in the case of being a courier for 10 grams of methamphetamine.

"The defendant Zulham alias Zul was sentenced to nine years in prison, a fine of Rp. 2 billion, subsidiary to six months in prison," said Chief Judge As'ad Rahim Lubis while reading the verdict at the Medan District Court as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 4.

As'ad Rahim said the panel of judges assessed that the facts of the trial of the defendant were proven and guilty of violating the primary indictment, Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning narcotics.

Namely, offering to sell, sell, buy, receive, become an intermediary in buying and selling, exchanging, or delivering class I narcotics weighing more than five grams of methamphetamine.

"The aggravating thing was that the defendant's actions disturbed the public and did not support the government's program in eradicating drugs," he said.

Meanwhile, the mitigating factor for As'Ad Rahim said the defendant regretted and promised not to repeat his actions as drug intermediary.

After reading the verdict, the panel of judges gave the Prosecutor General Prosecutor (JPU) of the Belawan District Attorney (Kejari), the defendant's legal adviser and the defendant to accept or appeal against the decision.

The judge's decision was lighter than the demands of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Medan Bastian Sihombing for 12 years in prison, a fine of Rp. 2 billion, subsidiary to two years in prison.

The indictment revealed that on May 4, 2023, Belawan Port Police personnel received information about the circulation of methamphetamine on Jalan Abdul Sani Muthalib, Yuka Complex, Gun Church, Medan Marelan.

After arriving at the location, personnel saw the defendant sitting in the hut. Then an arrest was made and securing evidence. As a result of the interrogation, Zulham got the item from Dodi (DPO).
