TANJUNG SELOR - Governor of North Kalimantan (Kaltara) Zainal Arifin Paliwang, directly oversees the development of food commodity prices, especially rice prices that have been creeping up since early September 2023.

Based on data sources from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), until the third week of September 2023, the trend of rice prices has increasingly shown price increases, while there is a potential deficit in rice production until November 2023.

Deputy for Food Availability and Stabilization of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), I Gusti Ketut Astawa, said the high price of rice was influenced by the high price of Food Dry Grain (GKP) at the producer level.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Bulog Operational Planning and Public Service Division, Epi Sulandari, explained that currently Bulog always maintains supply stocks in warehouses throughout Indonesia according to the needs of their respective regions.

"In accordance with the President's instructions, the Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian invited the local government to continue the low-cost food aid program.

"As soon as possible, the local government will continue to coordinate with Bulog to check the existing rice stock so that it can be disbursed to the public," said Zainal, Tuesday, September 26.

"In Kaltara, we always echo the use of people's yards to grow food commodities such as chilies, which until now there is no need to worry about chili stocks anymore," said Zainal.

In addition, the mode of transportation is a challenge for fluctuating food prices in Kaltara.

"I and the Provincial Government of Kaltara are trying to provide subsidies for transportation modes of transportation for goods and people so that distribution costs can be reduced. In addition to holding low-cost markets, we are working together with various providers of transportation modes, both land, sea, and air so that the cost of shipping goods or people can be more affordable so that the prices of goods in the market and retail are much cheaper," concluded Zainal.
