JAKARTA - Tanah Abang Market is said to be empty of visitors. Traders say TikTok Shop is the cause, because they think that buyers are turning to TikTok Shop.

However, this is not the case at Senen Market, Central Jakarta, which looks crowded. Visitors at Block III Pasar Senen have no effect on the conditions that previously went viral at Tanah Abang Market about the lack of buyers.

The Block III area of Pasar Senen was observed by many visitors who came. It can be seen on the ground floor that mostly sells parabotants and household appliances, it can be seen that the busy visitors pass by on the ground floor.

While on the first, second and third floors also have quite a lot of visitor intensity. What's more, on the third floor, Pasar Senen Block III is very crowded because on the floor it sells used clothes, aka Thrifting, which is currently a trendsetter among young people.

When met at Pasar Senen Block III, one of the parabot sellers, Rahmat (36) admitted that sales were quite significant considering that his parabot shops were also selling online.

"In stores, it's actually quiet, but Alhamdulillah, if we sell online, we will be busy. If there is no online, we won't close this (sales)," Rahmat told reporters, Friday, September 22.

Rahmat said that the market was crowded because of the Thrifting shops which were one of the attractions for visitors to come to Pasar Senen.

"So it looks crowded with markets, even though most people want to shop for Thrifting. But thanks to Thrifting, there are also those who buy it from us," he said.

Previously, traders at Tanah Abang Market complained about a decrease in sales turnover. According to traders at Tanah Abang Market, which caused a sharp decline in income, namely the presence of TikTok Shop.Tanah Abang located in Central Jakarta is known as one of the largest wholesale centers in Southeast Asia. Visitors who come are not only from Jakarta, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, but also from outside the area.

Generally, buyers at Tanah Abang Market make wholesale purchases to then resell them. Therefore, Tanah Abang Market is arguably never empty of visitors.

But this has changed drastically since the COVID-19 pandemic that hit Indonesia in 2020. Even when the pandemic was over, Tanah Abang Market never returned to its original state.
