SURABAYA - The status of demarcation of traveling abroad against four leaders of the East Java DPRD has not been extended by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The reason is that the case file for the East Java Provincial Government grant bribery case is complete and the trial has been rolled out.

"If the interests of preventing someone are no longer needed, then it means that the case file is sufficient and determination is no longer needed," said Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri in Surabaya, Wednesday, September 20.

The KPK previously banned four leaders of the East Java DPRD since February 2023. They are the Chairman of the East Java DPRD Kusnadi, then three people as Deputy Chair of the East Java DPRD for the 2019-2024 Period, Anik Maslachah, Anwar Sadad, and Achmad Iskandar.

"The prevention of traveling abroad is, in principle, for the sake of smoothing the case handling process," he said.

Ali Fikri emphasized that the demarcation was carried out to complete the evidence proven in the trial. If it is considered sufficient, then the decomposition will not be extended. Now the four leaders of the East Java DPRD have been able to go abroad.

"If then there is (Leader of the East Java DPRD) who arrives abroad, it means that it has been completed for the first 6 months of deconstruction in accordance with the Immigration Law," he said.

According to Fikri, there is no need for discontinuation abroad within six consecutive months if the evidence is complete.

"The check can be extended for the second 6 months, it can be done according to the needs later for the purposes of the investigation. The case has already been rolled out in court, meaning the determination has been completed," he said.

Previously in early March 2023, the KPK prevented four leaders of the East Java DPRD from traveling abroad. This is in the aftermath of an investigation into the alleged bribery case of East Java Provincial Government grant funds with the suspect, Deputy Chairman of the Sahat Tua Regional House of Representatives, Simanjuntak.

The defendant Sahat was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the case that happened to him. Sahat also filed a pledoi, but the panel of judges rejected it. This was discovered when the defendant Sahat underwent a trial at the Surabaya Corruption Court, Tuesday, September 19, 2023.
