South Sumatra Regional Police and Ministry of Environment and Forestry Seal Land Used by Forest and Land Fires in OKI

PALEMBANG - The South Sumatra Regional Police together with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) of the Republic of Indonesia sealed the sealing of burned land in Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI), South Sumatra.

"We will carry out law enforcement in synergy with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry to carry out this action," said South Sumatra Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General Zulkarnain, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, September 20.

He explained that this meant that the South Sumatra Regional Police would take sealing action if the Ministry of Environment and Forestry did not do so. However, if the Ministry of Environment and Forestry carries out the sealing, the South Sumatra Police will not do it.

However, he added that to carry out this sealing action, the South Sumatra Police certainly have the corridors and boundaries to do so.

He hopes that in the future the public will be more aware of the dangers of clearing land by burning it.

Previously, officers from the Center for Environmental and Forestry Law Handling and Enforcement (BPPHLHK) Regional Sumatra Section III Palembang had sealed the burned land in Secrest, Pedamaran, Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI), South Sumatra on Monday.

BPPHLHK Sumatra Region Section III Palembang sealed the Other Pilot Area (APL) land belonging to the Peat and Mangrove Restoration Agency (BRGM) and Forestry Research and Development covering an area of ​​50 hectares which was burned in the area.

The Environmental and Forestry Law Handling and Enforcement Agency (BPPHLHK) Sumatra Region Section III Palembang sealed burned land in Padamaran District, Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) Regency, South Sumatra, Monday.

The land that was burned has a yellow line marked PPNS Environment and Forestry and the total area is 50 hectares.

Officers put up a sign that says Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) of the Republic of Indonesia.

It says "WARNING", Everyone is prohibited from carrying out any activities in this area. This area is under the supervision of Environmental Supervisory Officers based on Law Number 32 of 2009 concerning the protection and monitoring of the environment in Law Number 6 of 2023 concerning the establishment of government regulations in lieu of Law Number 2 of 2022 regarding Job Creation becoming Law.

At the bottom of the "white-red-white" colored seal board it reads "Whoever deliberately breaks, throws away or damages the seal of an object by or under the name of an authorized public authority, or in other way thwarts the closure with a seal, is threatened with a maximum imprisonment of 2 years 8 months (Article 232 Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code).

Sealing is carried out at the burn site. In fact, white smoke was still rising from the remains of the burning grove.
