DENPASAR - The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Bali Province together with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of Gianyar Regency searched a number of blocks at the Class IIA Bangli Narcotics Correctional Institution (Lapas) to catch cell phones and dangerous goods.

"We did not find any prohibited items," said Head of the Bangli Narcotics Prison, Sugeng Hardono, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 19.

The joint team only found other items, including matches, wood, iron and nails.

The joint officers visited a number of cells inhabited by detainees and inmates to further check a number of dangerous items.

"The search was carried out as an effort to eradicate cellular phones, illegal levies, and drugs," he said.

"This is the goal of sterilizing prohibited items that can disrupt security and order in prisons," he said.

In addition to conducting searches of the detention room, he said, joint officers conducted urine tests of a number of inmates, detainees, and prison officers at random.

As many as 150 inmates and 28 prison officers also underwent urine tests and the results were not found to contain drugs.

The urine test, he said, was an implementation of the prevention and eradication of drug abuse and illicit trafficking (P4GN).

Class IIA Bangli Narcotics Prison is inhabited by 1,154 inmates based on data from the Public Correctional Database System (SDP) of the Directorate General (Ditjen) of Corrections which was updated on Tuesday (19/9), at 18.30 WIB.

Capacity in this prison, he said, should be as many as 468 people or have exceeded capacity. That number also makes the Class IIA Bangli Narcotics Prison a prison inhabited by the most inmates or exceeding capacity.

In addition to Bangli Narcotics Prison, Class IIA Prison in Kerobokan, Badung Regency, exceeds capacity because it is inhabited by 1,002 people, while the capacity is only 466 people.

Overall, the number of inmates and detainees spread across 10 prison units and state detention centers in Bali reached 3,898 people or exceeding the capacity of 1,544 people based on data from the Public SDP of the Directorate General of Corrections on Tuesday (19/9).
