KPU Prepares Draft For Registration Of Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates For Meetings With DPR

The General Election Commission (KPU) has prepared a draft KPU Regulation (PKPU) related to the registration of presidential and vice presidential candidates to be used as material at a consultation meeting with the DPR and the government which is planned to be held on Wednesday (20/9).

Hasyim said the KPU redesigned the duration of the registration period for presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2024 General Election referring to Law Number 7 of 2023 concerning Elections that the election campaign was carried out 25 days after the determination of the list of permanent candidates (DCT) for legislative members and 15 days after the determination of pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates.

This means, if the 2024 election campaign starts on November 28, 2023 as stated in the PKPU Number 3 of 2022, then the determination of the presidential and vice presidential candidates is on November 13, 2023.

"Because there is Law 7/2023 on Elections, which is a consequence of the law from the Perpu (Government in Lieu of Law) Number 1 of 2022, which includes a change in the duration of time that the determination of the presidential candidate is carried out on November 13, 2023, the KPU redesigns the duration of the registration and verification period," he said.

Hasyim said his agency had prepared two plans for the registration schedule for the presidential and vice-presidential candidates, which was moved forward to 1016 October 2023 or fixed on 19 October 25 November 2023.

"In the draft that was tested by the public two weeks ago, it was designed from 10 to 16 October 2023. Later we will prepare both of them," said Hasyim.

If the registration of presidential and vice-presidential candidates becomes 10'16 October 2023, he said, the duration of document verification to the determination of candidate pairs (paslon) on November 13, 2023 will be looser.

"If the registration is 10 to 16 October 2023, it means the duration for verification, administrative research, nomination requirements, and the requirements for presidential candidates are relatively loose," said Hasyim.

However, he said, if the schedule does not change, the KPU will internally tighten the duration for the stages to the determination of pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates.

Apart from that, he said the registration schedule scheme would be finalized at a meeting with the DPR RI and the government on Wednesday (20/9).

"Which one will be fixed later, we will finalize it in a hearing or consultation meeting with the DPR RI on September 20, 2023," he said.
