BABEL - The Provincial Government of Bangka Belitung Islands in collaboration with PLN Region Babel will process waste into electrical energy, as a step to overcome waste problems in the area.

"The use of organic waste as fuel for this power plant is a short-term step in overcoming the waste problem in Pangkalpinang City," said Acting Governor of the Babel Islands Suganda Pandapotan Pasaribu in Pangkalpinang, Sunday, September 17.

He said the processing of waste into electrical energy was part of the Direct Governor's Program for Joint Execution of Building Bangka Belitung (Gule Kabung) regarding the problem of garbage that had been mounting at the Final Disposal Site (TPA) of Parit Six Pangkalpinang City.

"We together with PLN will use organic waste as fuel for power plants and this is a short-term program, while in the long term the provincial government is working on regional TPA development," he said as quoted by Antara.

The Mayor of Pangkalpinang, Maulan Aklil, said that the waste problem in Pangkalpinang was because TPA Parit Enam had been overloaded and could not accommodate the production of public waste.

"Currently, the waste of the people of Pangkalpinang City who enter TPA Parit Six has reached 170 tons per day," he said.

He supports the processing of organic waste into electrical energy fuel, because it not only overcomes waste problems but can also increase the availability of community energy in the provincial capital.

"The issue of garbage cannot be done by the Pangkalpinang City Government itself, we need the help of the Babel Provincial Government considering that the settlement in the city of thousands of smiles is already crowded to establish a new TPA," he said.
