JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said the 5.1 magnitude earthquake in the northern region of Central Java (Central Java) was due to the extensional attraction of the Indo-Australian Plate under the influence of the gravitational force.

"The earthquake that occurred was a type of deep earthquake (deep focus) due to the slab pull activity or the extensional pull of the Indo-Australian Plate under the influence of the gravitational force," said Head of the BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Center, Daryono in Jakarta, Wednesday, September 13, quoted by Antara.

He said the epicenter of the earthquake was located at coordinates 6.02 south latitude and 110.09 east longitude, or precisely located in the sea at a distance of 90 km northwest of Jepara, Central Java at a depth of 666 km.

Daryono stated that the results of the analysis of the source mechanism showed that the earthquake that occurred at 12.34 WIB had a downward movement mechanism (normal fault).

In the BMKG analysis, Daryono also updated earthquake information which initially had a magnitude of 5.3 to a magnitude of 5.1.

He said that based on the estimation of the shock map (shakemap), this earthquake caused shocks in the Jepara and Kendal areas with an intensity scale of II MMI (modified mercy intensity), meaning that vibrations were felt by several people, light objects that were hung swayed.

"Until now, there have been no reports of damage caused by the earthquake. The modeling results also show that this earthquake has no potential for a tsunami," he said.

He said that until 12.50 WIB, the results of BMKG monitoring had not shown any aftershock activity.

He appealed to the public to avoid buildings that were cracked or damaged by the earthquake.

"Check and make sure the building where you live is earthquake-resistant enough, or there is no damage due to earthquake vibrations that endanger the stability of the building before you return to the house," he said.

In addition, he also appealed to the public to remain calm and not be influenced by issues that cannot be justified.
