CIANJUR - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) conveyed that an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.1 that occurred on Monday (11/9) at midnight caused damage to residents' houses in the Cianjur Regency, West Java.

"The earthquake was felt quite fast by residents in the northern region, city center, east, and several sub-districts in the southern region. The report obtained was a house in Sarampad Village, Cugenang District, which had just been renovated and collapsed in the back wall," said Cianjur Regency BPBD Chief Executive Asep Sukma Wijaya as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 12.

"Residents whose houses were heavily damaged were forced to ride at their relatives' houses," said Asep.

According to him, the earthquake caused some residents in the Cugenang and Cianjur sub-districts to panic and chose to stay outside their homes until early Tuesday morning for fear that the earthquake that occurred on Monday (11/9) at 23.58 WIB might be followed by aftershocks.

After feeling the earthquake, residents living in Nagrak Village, Cianjur District, some decided to wait outside their homes for a few tens of minutes for fear of aftershocks. Several heads of families in the village decided to check until dawn.

"There was a rumbling sound that was quite loud, so we asked residents to remain vigilant," said Angga Purwanda, the head of the neighborhood unit at Prima Nagrak Housing.

"There has been no earthquake for almost three months, but residents are asked to remain vigilant," he said.

BPBD Cianjur Regency has dispatched officers to record the impact of the earthquake in the districts of Cugenang, Pacet, Cilaku, Cibeber, Karangtengah, Sukaluyu, and Ciranjang.
