At India's G20 Summit, Jokowi Emphasizes ASEAN Reaches Indo-Pacific Stability Because The World Needs A Safe House

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) hopes that the world will become a big family that builds each other and has a common goal of creating a peaceful life.

He made this statement when he led the Indonesian delegation in the second session to raise the topic of "One Family" at the G20 Summit in New Delhi, India, Saturday, September 9 local time.

"I agree, if the world is like a big family, however, the family that Indonesia hopes is a family that builds each other, cares about each other, and has one common goal, namely to create a peaceful and prosperous life," said Jokowi in a statement delivered by the Press, Media, and Information Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat, Sunday, September 10.

Jokowi then said that to realize this goal, one of which was to create global stability, one of which was by stopping the war.

"We have to stop the war, stick to international law, and work hand in hand to create inclusiveness," he said.

Furthermore, Jokowi emphasized that currently Indonesia continues to encourage ASEAN to anchor regional stability in the Indo-Pacific, because according to him the world currently needs a safe house.

"As Chair of ASEAN, Indonesia continues to encourage ASEAN to become an anchor for the stability of the region that has a habit of cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, because the world needs a neutralizer that needs a safe house -," he said.

Another thing that is considered to be able to help realize a peaceful and prosperous life is to maintain solidarity between countries. Jokowi assessed that the country's classifiers who seemed to be divided must end immediately.

"We need to end the dichotomy that divides, north and south, advances and develops, as well as the east and west," said Jokowi, quoted by Antara.

For this reason, Jokowi said that cooperation and dialogue space must be open to all parties and the rights of all countries must not be ruled out, including the rights of developing countries.

Therefore, Jokowi emphasized that Indonesia will continue to convey the voices and interests of global southern countries.

"Indonesia will continue to echo the voices and interests of global countries, as well as encourage the representation of a wider region. For that, I welcome the participation of the African Union in the G20," he said.

Not only that, Jokowi also said that global solidarity on health issues must also continue to be strengthened, one of which is through the mobilization of pandemic funds.

Through the mobilization of pandemic funds, he said, a commitment worth US$2 billion (around Rp30.8 trillion) must be realized together.

Furthermore, President Jokowi said that equality can also help create a peaceful and prosperous world, one of which is through justice in global reform and transparency.

"Including the international tax system, with the fulfillment of development rights for all, including developing countries," he said.

Jokowi gave an example, one of which is to support the downstreaming of an industry carried out by a country in order to make a leap of development.

"Because this is the right of developing countries to make leaps to development," said Jokowi.

Therefore, President Jokowi encourages G20 countries to be able to support the participation of developing countries in the global supply chain and encourage equal cooperation.

"The G20 must support the participation of developing countries in the global supply chain and encourage an equivalent and inclusive cooperation ecosystem," he said.

During the series of the G20 Summit on 9-10 September 2023, President Jokowi was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Panjaitan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, and Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani.
