JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) has prepared ethical guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) or artificial intelligence to provide protection for personal data.

Deputy Minister of Communication and Information (Wamenkominfo) Nezar Patria said regulations related to AI's ability to form data patterns supported by the availability of data that can be accessed by the public through the internet system.

"Stapping technology, crawling and the like, although it does facilitate data collection to then be used to train AI, it must remain in accordance with the applicable regulatory corridors," said Nezar at the 2023 National Forum for the Protection of Personal Data in Badung, Bali, in a written statement, Wednesday, August 30, was confiscated by Antara.

Nezar said there are limits that must be respected in the use of the data, from copyright limits, to respect for personal data.

He considered that the provisions regarding data processing activities, including the provisions for data opening and utilization of personal data needed to be further regulated as a derivative of Law Number 27 of 2022 concerning Personal Data Protection (UU PDP).

"As stated by the Minister (Menkominfo), this RPP PDP is a mandate from the PDP Law. Given the central role of data including personal data, in the development of AI technology, of course, this RPP PDP has an important role in presenting the use of data-based technology that still respects individual rights," he said.

According to the Deputy Minister of Communication and Information, several countries have built mutual agreements regarding the practice of collecting data automatically and massively that have the potential to violate the provisions for protecting personal data.

Nezar said recently he read a joint statement signed by 12 personal data protection authorities from Britain, Australia, Morocco, to Argentina.

The twelve authorities, he said, reminded service providers such as social media platforms to protect users' personal information available on their platforms from unlawful hacking activities.

Therefore, Nezar stated that the Ministry of Communication and Informatics would also draw up a Circular of Ethical Guidelines for Artificial Intelligence. The circular is intended to present the use of ethical AI and respect the existing rules.

Nezar emphasized the important meaning of respect for individual fundamental rights so that AI can still benefit the community.

"It is our responsibility to present a future full of innovation. I believe that through today's PDP National Forum, we can jointly present this future," he said.

During the event, the Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi and the Director General of Applications and Information at the Ministry of Communication and Information, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan.
