BANTUL - Abrasi along Glagah-Congo Beach is quite severe. The Kulon Progo Regency Government (Pemkab) coordinates with the Serayu Opak River Basin Center (BBWS) initiating the handling of abrasion in the southern area of Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA).

Acting Kulon Progo Regent Ni Made Dwipanti Indrayanti said the master plan for handling southern YIA abrasion had actually been made since 2018. However, due to COVID-19, the program has been stopped until now it has not been resumed.

"The master plan for handling the southern abrasion of Yogyakarta International Airport has been made by BBWS Sungai Serayu Opak. We communicated with BBWS Serayu Opak about this and we will communicate with the central government," he said in Bantul, Wednesday, August 30, which was confiscated by Antara.

Based on the master plan for handling abrasion prepared by BBWS Serayu Opak, he continued, the plan is that along the southern region, tetrapots are installed so that water does not enter the mainland or suppress the rate of abrasion to the mainland. In addition, he continued, the tetrapot is well arranged, so that tourists can enjoy the beach atmosphere along Glagah-Congot.

"We immediately initiated the handling of abrasion in the southern coast area," he said.

Furthermore, Ni Made said that along the southern coast in Kulon Progo from east to west, there was abrasion according to the conditions and location of the coast.

"This is not a new issue, but an old issue of abrasion. This requires serious handling, including public concern for the environment," he said.

Based on conditions at Trisik and Bugel, especially on Trisik Beach where turtles are captivity, the southern coastal abrasion is very disturbing and becomes a threat.

Ni Made encourages the attention of many parties to handle the abrasion location, both in the short term, medium term, and long term, to reduce the rate of abrasion.

"What we are facing is nature, so it requires a technical mechanism to reduce the impact of abrasion in this southern coast area," he said.

However, he said the Kulon Progo Regency Government had not calculated the losses due to this abrasion. However, it is certain that abrasion has caused the beauty of the beach to decline and threaten the turtle conservation area in the Trisik Beach Area.

"This has an impact on visitors' appeal. Materially, we have not calculated the losses. If it is non-material from the tourist side and reduces the number of tourist visits because the natural beauty of the beach is reduced due to abrasion," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Small Fishermen Empowerment and Management of Fish Auction at the Marine and Fisheries Service (DKP_ Kulon Progo Regency Wakhid Purwosubiyantara stated that he had reported to DKP DIY regarding the threat of abrasion in the southern coastal area, especially on Trisik Beach.

"The turtle conservation location is under the authority of DKP DIY, so that solutions can be given immediately, especially the relocation of hatchlings, which until now the process of land utilization permits for the relocation of hatchlings has been carried out by the Kalurahan/Bararan Village Government," he said.
