JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo invites people who often use private vehicles to switch to public transportation in their daily activities.

The invitation was conveyed after the head of state tested the Jakarta-Bogor-Depok-Bekasi (Jabodebek) Integrated Railroad (LRT) via Cawang LRT Station at the beginning of this week's working day.

"I and the First Lady came to Cawang, East Jakarta, directly to the LRT Station. Mrs. Wury Ma'ruf Amin and the OASE members of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet, the Chairperson of the MPR, the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, a number of ministers, the Governor of DKI Jakarta and the Deputy Governor of West Java as well as the community," Jokowi said in his X account, @jokowi, Monday, August 28.

Jokowi's first activity at the beginning of this working week was not only trying but also inaugurating the Jabodebek LRT. This new mode of transportation will serve 41.2 kilometers of routes in Jakarta and West Java, which are built with a budget of IDR 32.6 trillion.

"The presence of this LRT complements the row of mass transportation modes that have been built by the government in the capital city and its surroundings after the Integrated Moda Raya (MRT), the Electric Rail Train (KRL), TransJakarta, and airport trains," said Jokowi.

Jokowi also invited the public not to depend too much on private vehicles anymore. By utilizing mass transportation, he said, the community means participating in preventing pollution and playing a role in releasing the title of DKI Jakarta which is always on the list of the top 10 most congested cities in the world.

"I hope that people can move from private transportation to existing mass transportation. This is to reduce congestion in the capital city and its surroundings. So far, Jakarta has always been in the top 10 most congested cities in the world. Every day there are 996,000 vehicles entering Jakarta which cause other than traffic jams, as well as pollution," said Jokowi.

The Jabodebek LRT has 18 stations in two service routes, namely Cibubur Line and Bekasi Line. Cibubur Line serves a trip from Harjamukti Station in Depok, West Java, to Dukuh Atas Station in Jakarta and crosses 12 stations with a distance of 24.3 km.

Meanwhile, Bekasi Line stretches from Jati Mulya Station in Bekasi to Dukuh Atas Station and crosses 14 stations with a distance of 27.3 km.
