BATURAJA - Pollres Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) personnel, South Sumatra, handled the forest and land fires (karhutla) that occurred in the East Baturaja sub-district so that the fire did not spread widely, causing a smog disaster.

OKU Police Chief AKBP Arif Harsono said the fire broke out on land belonging to the Modern Ma'Arif Nahdlatul Baturaja Islamic Boarding School, Air Paoh Village, East Baturaja District.

Half a hectare of land burned is thought to have been caused by cigarette butts that were dumped by residents carelessly, triggering the fire of forest and land fires.

"Luckily, the fire was quickly extinguished so that it did not cause any casualties or smog fog disasters," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, August 24.

Assisted by the Fire Department, police personnel extinguished the fire using a water sprayer so that it did not spread to other lands around the location.

"About an hour after the blackout was extinguished using two fire engines, the fire was finally extinguished at around 15.15 WIB," he said.

According to him, this case is still under development to determine the exact cause of the forest and land fires.
