Indonesian Embassy Returns 5 Indonesian Citizens Affected By Sudan Conflict

The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) Khartoum repatriated five Indonesian citizens (WNI) to their homeland on Sunday (20/8) following the ongoing armed conflict in Sudan.

During the conflict period, they were accommodated at the Indonesian Embassy in Khartoum in Port Sudan. The five Indonesian citizens are Indonesian migrant workers in the household sector, said a press release from the Indonesian Embassy in Khartoum as reported by ANTARA, Monday, August 21.

They work and live in Khartoum. They previously decided not to participate in the evacuation process with other Indonesian citizens to Indonesia last April.

"However, with the expansion of the armed conflict that is still ongoing today, the five Indonesian citizens have asked the Indonesian Embassy for assistance for evacuation," said the Indonesian Embassy in Khartoum.

The Indonesian government has repatriated more than 1,000 Indonesian citizens living in Sudan since the armed conflict between Sudanese soldiers (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia broke out on April 15.

Based on data from the Indonesian Embassy in Khartoum, there are 1,209 Indonesian citizens living in Sudan, most of whom are students and students. Meanwhile, the United Nations Food Assistance Agency (WFP) noted that the Sudanese conflict has left 20 million people experiencing acute hunger.

A number of areas such as Khartoum, South and West Kordofan, and Darfur are the worst areas hit by hunger, the WFP said.
