Preventing Forest And Land Fires, BNPB Reminds Residents Not To Open Land By Burning

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) provides direction to the community in order to reduce the habit of clearing land by burning.

This is because the danger of the fire propagation is getting bigger, if the object that caught fire was the bushes.

"When the bushes caught fire, the fire was like a very fast gas, the power of the fire was extraordinary," said Head of the BNPB Disaster Information and Communication Data Center Abdul Muhari in Disaster Briefing as reported by ANTARA, Monday, August 21.

Abdul reported that in West Kalimantan a similar thing had happened, which caused one victim to die as a result of the fire. He appealed to the public to pay attention to the wind if it was going to extinguish the fire.

Because according to him, sometimes the direction of the wind can change suddenly, which initially moved away and then grew and turned around.

"Indeed, there are certain conditions related to traditional land and others, which are indeed the need to clear land by burning. But in conditions like this, by looking at the high possibility of this potential risk, it should be stopped first," said Abdul.

BNPB noted that from August 14-20 there have been 52 disasters dominated by forest and land fires. However, some areas above the equator and especially western Indonesia, there is still rain with a fairly high intensity.
