31 Disasters Occurred In South Lampung Until August 2023, Most Tornadoes

LAMPUNG - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded 31 disasters in South Lampung Regency from January 1 to August 2023.

"According to our data, the number of disasters from January to August 2023 there were 31 natural disasters," said Head of BPBD South Lampung Regency Heri Bastian, Monday, August 21, quoted by Antara.

Heri explained that natural disasters that often occur in South Lampung range from tornadoes to lightning.

"There were 20 strong winds or tornadoes, 4 floods, 2 landslides, 5 lightning strikes," he said.

He said that natural disasters that often occur are the impact of extreme weather, with his party having recorded 20 strong winds that have damaged residents' houses.

"The strong winds that occur in South Lampung are very frequent, even destroying dozens of houses," he said.

In July 2023, his party had handled cases of natural disasters in the form of houses collapsing due to this extreme weather.

"So last July we recorded that there were two locations where the house collapsed, namely the first in Candipuro District the house was badly damaged by a resident named Herman, and in Tanjung Bintang District it was moderately damaged by Andi Nasution," he said.

He appealed to the public to remain vigilant, especially when doing activities outside, and to continue to follow information from sources of official disaster information or BMKG.

He also asked the entire community, farmers and fishermen to be active, to always be aware of the potential for bad weather, such as strong winds, lightning strikes, and high waves.
